Game Summary

On Monday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team hosted Berkshire for a rescheduled contest from earlier in the season. Berkshire started with the momentum and took an early 1-0 lead. Walker’s bounced back to tie it before halftime. In the second half, the teams repeated the same action of goals and the game ended level at two apiece.
Less than 10 minutes into the game, Berkshire played a long ball into the box on a free kick, and after being cleared initially, Berkshire’s forward pounced on the loose ball to give the visitors a one-goal lead. The score remained the same for 25 minutes despite the hosts taking charge of the action. Walker’s finally found the back of the net with just under five minutes left in first half action. Lily Devine ’27 played a ball into the corner that Jani Weber ’26 gathered off of a Berkshrie defender. From the end line, she played it across to Ayden Riendeau ’26 who scored her fourth goal of the season.
After the break, Berkshire once again took a one-goal lead when they were able to take advantage of a loose ball. Walker’s attacked for the rest of the half, and even hit the post on a penalty shot. It looked like Berkshire was going to sneak away with a road victory, but Walker’s stayed strong and Emily Sanchez ’26 scored her fourth goal of the season with 90 seconds on the clock to secure a tie. Devine picked up the loose ball and laid a pass perfectly into Sanchez’s stride, and she ripped it into the top left corner from 30 yards out.
On the day, Walker’s outshot Berkshire 16-9. Emma Mazur ’27 made three saves in the goal for the hosts while Walker’s forced eight saves out of the Bekrshire goalie.
Walker’s will travel to Pomfret on Wednesday afternoon for the next contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00.
