Game Summary
On Wednesday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team hosted Choate in a Founder’s League contest. The visitors came away with a 4-1 victory to end the seven-game winning streak for Walker’s.
In the opening 10 minutes, Walker’s was on the front foot and hit the post and then missed a breakaway opportunity. The game settled down a little bit after that and Choate ended up taking a two-goal lead into half time with a goal from a corner kick in the 23rd minutes and then a goal from a shot to the top right corner 10 and a half minutes before halftime.
Choate would make it 4-0 in the second half with two goals in the 56th and 68th minutes. The home side ruined the shutout with 22 seconds remaining when Julia Coviello ’29 won a ball in the midfield and chipped over the top to Stella-Rose Lecompte ’27. Lecompte took two touches, went around the goalie and then found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. For Coviello, it was her first point wearing the purple and yellow for Walker’s.
On the day, Choate outshot Walker’s 19-9 and Emma Mazur ’27 recorded nine saves in the goal for Walker’s. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, October 15th when they host Pomfret in a WWNEPSSA contest. Pomfret beat Walker’s 4-1 last year and are the reigning NEPSAC Class C champions. Kickoff in Simsbury is set for 4:00.
