Game Summary
On Saturday afternoon, as part of Family Weekend, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team earned a big win when they hosted Marianapolis in a WWNEPSSA contest.
In the third minute, Janalyn Weber ’26 opened the scoring when she finished off a shot from the right side of the box after a great through pass from Gisselle Peña ’26. Walker’s doubled their lead in the 10th minute when Maddie Marsele ’29 took a quick throw-in and found Stella-Rose Lecompte ’27 in the corner. She took a touch and found Melia Belden ’27 at the back post. Belden made it 3-0 less then four minutes later when she broke down the left side after a great pass from Nona Gibert Francisco ’28. Before halftime, Jazmine Restituyo ’27 made it 4-0 on an unassisted effort and then Lecompte added a fifth on an assist from Caroline Hayes ’27. Julia Coviello ’29 scored her first career goal on an assist from Restituyo 4:31 before halftime to give the home team a six-goal advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, there were a number of great highlights to finish off Family Weekend. Maya Atwood ’26 recorded three assists, Hayes scored her first goal of the season and Emma Mazur ’27 added a goal as well. Liv O’Donnell ’26 played the full game in between the pipes for Walker’s and recorded her first career shutout making two saves in the second half. Weber and Peña each added a goal in second-half action as well and an own goal finished off the scoring with just under 14 minutes remaining.
On the season, Peña and Weber are leading the way for the Wildcats offensively. Weber has nine goals and five assists and Peña has added five goals and six assists while both have played nine games. Walker’s now holds a 9-2 record with six regular season games remaining. The next four are all against top Class A opponents before finishing the fall with two tough Class B foes. Next up is a trip across town to Westminster for a Founder’s League contest. Kickoff on Wednesday, Oct 22nd is set for 2:30.
