vs. Kingswood Oxford School
April 11, 2018 @ 10:30 am
In a well-played game in Simsbury on Wednesday afternoon, Walker’s defeated Kingswood-Oxford 5-1. In another of what has become an annual great game, both teams saw good pitching and good fielding on the afternoon.
Hannah Theriault ’20 started on the mound for Walker’s, and she pitched a tremendous game. She went the full 7 innings, striking out 12 and walking 0 on the afternoon. She limited Kingswood-Oxford to one run on six hits. Walker’s helped her out in the field, making several great plays and committing only one error.
At the plate, Walker’s once again scored early, using a Cecelia Petrarca ’20 single and a Reagan Kerecz ’21 triple, as well as a K-O error, to score two in the bottom of the first. Theriault led off the bottom of the 2nd with a triple and Gabby Dunn ’20 laid down a perfect bunt to get her home and build Walker’s lead to 3. After a scoreless 3rd and 4th, Kerecz led off the bottom of the 5th with a triple. Sara Fallon ’20 followed with a towering home run to left-center field, easily clearing the 220 ft fence. Walker’s built their lead to 5-0 with the two-run shot.
K-O scored their run in the top of the 6th, but Theriault shut the door in the 7th, giving Walker’s the well-earned 5-1 win.
Walker’s moves to 2-0 on the season and heads to Suffield for what should be a very good game on Saturday afternoon.
