Walker’s honored Math Department Chair Jen Wall P’22, ’24 The Anastasia Payne Rooke ’48 Chair in Science, Math, and Technology for her distinguished performance in the classroom and contributions to the life of the School. Every three years since its inauguration in 1998, a faculty member is recognized for providing high quality education for young women in either science, math, or technology. The award acknowledges an individual in honor of Anastasia “Stacie” Rooke ’48 and her passion and value in Walker’s education for young women.
Head of Middle School and Interim Dean of Faculty Isabel Ceballos P’29 presented the Chair to beloved Jen Wall during Family Weekend while the community of students and parents stood in ovation. Amongst many positive reflections of her work, it was remarked that Jen’s “warm and encouraging demeanor fosters an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and inspired to tackle even the most complex problems.” Isabel went on to say that Jen “models what it means to embrace the joy and excitement of mathematical exploration, particularly encouraging girls to thrive in this field.”
Moments like these are reminders of what Walker’s and its faculty do best: transform students’ experiences from the moment they enter the classroom. Where they once may have had a “lifelong fear or general dislike” for a particular subject, they emerge with a “newfound confidence, appreciation, and even genuine enjoyment of the subject.”
Congratulations to Ms. Wall on this special achievement!
