Softball Spotlight: Reagan Kerecz ’20

April 19, 2019

As Walker’s enters spring long weekend, the varsity softball team finds itself with a 3-1 record coming off of wins over Kingswood Oxford and Wilbraham & Monson by a combined score of 42-2. Junior shortstop Reagan Kerecz is leading the way offensively for the Wildcats.

Reagan ’20 leads the team in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples and slugging percentage. She is tied for the team lead in on-base percentage with senior Sara Fallon. Through four games, Reagan is 9-11, good for an .818 batting average. Six of her hits were for extra bases.

Starting in the infield for her fourth season in a row at Walker’s, Reagan has helped lead the team to an overall record of 34-11 through her Walker’s career, which started in 8th grade.

“Reagan has really come into her own this year,” said Coach John Monagan. “I think that this reflects not only on her work ethic as an athlete, but also on the leadership that the seniors on this team have provided. They have encouraged and pushed Reagan to grow as a player and as a leader, and we are seeing those results in the early part of this season.”

Reagan is a tri-varsity athlete at Walker’s, participating as the starting goalie for soccer and a three-year starter on the basketball team. In her sophomore year, Reagan was named “Junior Jock,” a long-standing Walker’s tradition that recognizes a sophomore (or rising junior) athlete that loves her teams, plays hard and has athletics as an important part of her life.

Walker’s softball team (3-1) has nine regular-season games remaining. Walker’s hosts Deerfield on Wednesday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m.
