Kate Weiss ’21, a member of Walker’s CyberStrong club, has qualified Walker’s for nationals in the Girls Go Cyberstart competition.

“This is the first year anyone from our school has made it to the main game or nationals. It’s an honor to be able to say I did it!” said Kate on learning of the team’s qualification. The club’s advisor, Dean of Technology and Innovation Sarah Edson adds, “Kate’s enthusiasm for Girls Go Cyberstart has been outstanding! Amidst her other responsibilities, she has made time to challenge herself with the games and puzzles this program offers. In the process, she is having fun, improving as a problem-solver, and developing a foundation of skills that will serve her well in the future.”

The competition is structured to help girls learn cybersecurity skills including forensics, programming, Linux, web security and cryptography. The national competition will take place on May 20 and 21.
