Walker’s Senior Earns Girl Scout Gold Award

Jynaiya Grizzle Girl Scout Gold Award

Jynaiya (Niya) Grizzle ’21 has been a Girl Scout since pre-K and she recently earned the highest award in Girl Scouting – The Girl Scout Gold Award. Girl Scouting builds courage, confidence, and character in girls who go out and make the world a better place in areas such as social services, healthcare, and education to name a few. The Girl Scout Gold Award, awarded to less than 6% of Girls Scouts annually, recognizes leadership, career exploration, challenge for personal growth, and community action.

Fueled by her compassion to help others, Niya identified a need in children who are medically or economically compromised and identified that many of the children need basic school supplies. Niya’s Gold Award project, “The Book Bag Drive,” provided more than 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to children at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, children with cancer and blood disorders at Children’s Hospital SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and to 15 children in Haiti.
