Walker’s Soccer Team Earns National Academic Award

Walker’s varsity soccer team has been honored with the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award list from the 2022-2023 school year. On Thursday, August 31, the Team Academic Award winners at the high school level were recognized by exemplary performance in the classroom. United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school soccer teams whose student athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player’s GPA, then dividing by the number of players. Walker’s team last fall ended the school year with a 3.6 GPA.

At Walker’s, the culture of the School is to strive for success not only on the pitch but in the classroom ensuring a well-rounded education. “It was clear from the first day I joined The Ethel Walker School community that the athletes were dedicated to working hard on the field and in the classroom,” says Coach Colin R. Griggs who joined the team in 2022-2023 for his first year. “Both aspects [athletic and academic] of their daily life are at the core of what they all want to achieve. I enjoyed a solid first season, and I am excited about what this group and all of Walker’s student-athletes can accomplish moving forward.”

Congratulations to the varsity members:
