Walker’s Swimmer Places Third at New England Tournament

Walker’s swim captain Erin Shanly ’19 placed third at the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Division III Championship meet held at Cornerstone Aquatics in West Hartford on March 2. Shanly was the highest placing swimmer for her team this season, earning her first career medal at the Championship, and adding 16 points to her team’s total that reached 124 on the day.

Shanly also won her Consolation Finals heat, racing her lifetime best time in the 100 backstroke, good for 9 points. She was anchored the medley relay that placed eighth (16 points) and the 400 freestyle relay that placed sixth (22 points) overall. Shanly was joined by five teammates who placed in the top 16 in one or more individual events.

Head Coach Kati Eggert said, “It was really important to see the hard work of senior captain Erin Shanly pay off. She truly earned that medal, and her coaches and teammates were all happy to see her take that home. Her leadership will definitely leave a lasting impression on our team, as she also leaves behind a couple school records.”
