Game Summary
On Saturday afternoon, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team traveled west to take on Kent School in Founder’s League action. After a scoreless first half, Walker’s found the back of the net four times to earn a 4-0 victory. With the win, the Wildcats are now 2-1 on the season.
In the opening half of play, Walker’s outshot Kent 8-4 forcing Kent’s goalkeeper into five saves. For Walker’s Emma Mazur ’27 was on her way to her second straight shutout making one save in the opening 40 minutes and not being tested in the second half.
After halftime, Walker’s settled in and created chances with better passing and composure on the ball. 14 minutes into the second half, they broke the scoreless tie with a great passing sequence that ended with Jani Weber ’26 setting up Stella-Rose Lecompte ’26 for her second goal of the season. About 12 minutes later, Weber scored her second of the young season when she received a ball out wide on the left from Caroline Hayes ’26. Jani took some touches and beat her defender inside to the top of the box and proceeded to rip a shot under the bar to double the advantage for the visitors.
The final two goals of the contest came directly from corner kicks. Weber was once again the provider when she curled a ball to the back post and Melia Belden ’27 one-timed the shot into the bottom corner. For Belden, it was her first goal of her Walker’s career. With just over one minute remaining, Gisselle Peña ’26 recorded an assist for the second game in a row when her corner kick found Maya Atwood ’26 for a header and her first of the season.
Walker’s will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Berkshire for their first Class B contest of the season. It will be their first of four games in an eight-day stretch – all against other NEPSAC Class B teams. Kick-off in Sheffield, MA is scheduled for 4:00.
