Game Summary

On Saturday afternoon, in windy and wet conditions, The Ethel Walker School’s varsity soccer team hosted Kent School in a Founder’s League matchup. Walker’s scored three goals before halftime and then added five more after the break to win 8-0 and bring their overall record on the season to 2-2. The Wildcats are now 2-1 in Founder’s League competition.

Esther Asamoah ’28 opened the scoring on a great pass from Stella-Rose Lecompte ’27 just four minutes into the contest. It took eight minutes to find the second goal of the game as Lecompte pounced on a rebound after a hard-hit shot from Julia Coviello ’29. Lecompte would score her second of the day eight minutes after that when Asamoah split the defenders and the Wildcats were off and running. In first half action, the home side outshot the visitors 18-4 forcing Kent’s goalkeeper into eight saves. The day’s tally would end 28-11.

Nine minutes after the break, Asamoah and Lecompte were at it again as Asamoah was fouled in the box and Lecompte scored her third to make it 4-0, this one from the penalty spot. About 10 minutes later, Asamoah broke down the right flank after a good pass from Bayliegh T. ’31. Asamoah got to the end line and played a ball across to Sawyar Fleming ’28 who slotted it home for her first goal in purple and white. Fleming returned the favor one minute later after a five-pass sequence and Asamoah scored on a breakaway to finish the day with two goals and three assists. The combination play on that goal was an example of much of the afternoon as Caroline Hayes ’27 played to Finley G. ’31. She played a one-touch pass to Luna Atwood ’30 who saw Fleming in space on the left flank before freeing Asamoah in the middle of the pitch.

Lecompte would finish off her career day in the 68th minute when the combinations this time found Hayes in the middle of the field. A perfect diagonal ball over the top found Lecompte who rifled a one-time shot from 16 yards out into the bottom left corner. She ended the day with four goals and an assist. Coviello finished the scoring in the 77th minute when a long-range effort skipped off the field and into the corner. In the goal for Walker’s, Emma Mazur ’27 recorded three saves en route to her seventh career shutout.
