Walker’s Theater Program Presents Winter Play Featuring UConn Puppets

On Thursday, February 28, 2019 and Friday, March 1, 2019, Walker’s Theater Program will present She Kills Monsters: Young Adventurers Edition featuring professional puppets from UConn’s Puppet Arts Program.

She Kills Monsters follows the journey of Agnes Evans as she comes to grips with her younger sister Tilly’s death through the popular role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons. As the game unfolds, Agnes discovers that this is more than just a game module — it is an imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. The show immerses the audience in dynamic fight scenes, wacky comedy, fiery-eyed dragons and 90’s pop culture, and addresses more serious topics, such as loss, bullying and identity.

Walker’s senior Emma Paterson is the production’s fight choreographer and assistant director, in addition to her role as Chuck. “Being able to help stage this show has been a learning experience and a privilege, and has given me an opportunity to really delve into the mechanics of what makes a stage production tick,” says Paterson.

“Using UConn’s puppets for the Bugbears, the Beholder, and Tiamat, a five-headed dragon, is adding another thrilling dimension to this show,” says Director Shannen Hofheimer.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Performances are Thursday, February 28th and Friday, March 1st at 7pm in Ferguson Theatre at The Ethel Walker School. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ethelwalker.org/winterplay and will also be available at the door. (Please note that faculty, staff and students of Walker’s do not need to purchase tickets to the performance.)
