Weekends are an opportunity to recharge and connect. From sundae making in Smith Dorm to trolley rides on a cold winter’s evening, there are many activities offered on the weekend that allow students much-deserved social time after a week of classes and co-curriculars. Day and boarding students choose from a variety of events and activities, making weekends at Walker’s a fun and interactive place to be.
There’s always something to do on the weekend — dances, carnivals and socials at peer schools or with them visiting our campus, sporting events, giving back to the community with Community Partnerships, open mic nights, or casual baking and board games in the dorms. Students also travel to local events including fairs, festivals, and area amusement parks. Our student head of weekend activities works with our Director of Residential Life and Student Activities throughout the year to be sure there are plenty of fun events and outings happening each weekend.
It’s simple to participate. Students are notified via email and by announcement at morning meetings about the upcoming weekend activities and they simply sign up online to indicate their interest. Transportation is provided both to and from all school-sponsored events and all students are expected to use the transportation provided. All activities are chaperoned by Walker’s faculty or staff. On the rare occasion that there is a fee to participate in an activity, students are able to apply the fee to their monthly statement. Students are encouraged to suggest new activities and work with the head of weekend activities to arrange details.
