Parent Education Series: Understanding Socialization and Its Impact on Your Child’s Identity Development

February 26, 2024 @ 7:30 pm 8:15 pm

We are thrilled to invite you to join us for the third edition of our year-long speaker series titled Understanding the Whole Child: A Walker’s Parent Education Series. Inspired by our School values, and anchored by the community of experts assembled at the School, we developed the series in an effort to equip Walker’s families with knowledge and tools to best support their students throughout their Walker’s journey. Each session will include both a presentation and an opportunity for questions and answers.

The next session will be devoted to Understanding Socialization and Its Impact on Your Child’s Identity Development. As adults, we are aware of the many messages that exist in the world to be consumed about who we should be, what we should do, who we should love, and what we should look like. Students are also receiving these messages at exponentially increased rates due to the rise in social media consumption. In this session, we will explore the impact socialization has on adolescent identity development and their sense of self because of these messages. Participants will leave the session with an awareness of the levels of socialization so you may challenge these messages and support your child in the healthy development of self, identity, and belonging.
