“I entered Walker’s in ninth grade. I think being a Cicerone is extremely important for many reasons. Mainly, because Cicerones are usually the first people that prospective families and students meet. They are leaders and provide guidance for everyone, which personally made my first days at Walker’s run a lot smoother. Although I was nervous to come to a brand new place with brand new people, I had already made connections with my Cicerone’s that guided me, so I knew I wouldn’t be alone. I aim to show prospective families the amazing community and school we have in general, while also demonstrating our core values.”

What is your favorite class and why?

My favorite class is math. Although I have never been great at math or as fond of the subject, I have truly loved my teachers. I never enjoyed doing math so much in my life before coming to Walker’s.

What is a unique experience you’ve had at Walker’s that you didn’t think you’d be involved in when arriving at Walker’s?

A unique experience I had at Walker’s that I didn’t think I would be involved in when arriving here is being in Grapes. I knew about the group, but I didn’t really think about joining the group until I met Ms. MacAlpine and realized how much fun the members have. I especially loved having a little pizza party with the other Grapes after one of our performances.

What is your favorite part of your typical day at Walker’s? What do you look forward to every day?

My favorite part of my day at Walker’s is arriving. I enjoy eating Abra’s breakfast, and especially seeing all of my friends and teachers. I look forward to seeing my friends the next day the second I leave campus!

What advice would you give to an incoming Walker’s student?

Advice I would give to an incoming Walker’s student is to definitely try and connect with your class before school starts. Whether you make a group chat or reach out individually, it truly makes the start of school so exciting. I loved getting to know my peers prior to the school year, and it made me significantly less nervous to come to school!

What do you think is the biggest benefit of attending school at Walker’s?

I believe the biggest benefit of attending Walker’s are all of the amazing opportunities. The amount of opportunities whether it be in academics, music, art, sports, are endless. I have seen so many improvements in all of these categories from the start of the ninth grade to now. I never could have imagined the amount of possibilities here at Walker’s.

How do you feel you have grown (academically, emotionally, mentally) since your first day at Walker’s?

I feel like I have grown so much academically especially since my first day at Walker’s. My math skills have improved so much, which feels so rewarding. Along with my writing and scientific knowledge. These improvements aren’t just because I started highschool. It’s because of the immense support from my peers and teachers, along with the extra help that is built in for us.

How do you think Walker’s has prepared you for your future?

I think Walker’s has prepared me for the future in many ways. Though I have only been at Walker’s for a few years, I know with the academics and overall way the school is set up for us, I will be prepared for college. Along with the school being based on college preparation, the supporting community has prepped me for the future as well. I feel so much more comfortable speaking in public and speaking to new people now, and I give all of the credit to Walker’s.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

My favorite thing to do in my free time is to swim. Swimming is my main sport, and I love doing it. Every time I jump into the water I feel as though my worries and everything going on around me disappears for a few hours. I also love swimming with my team back home and at Walker’s. Some of my closest friends I have are because of swimming.
