Equestrian Center

One of the best equestrian facilities in the country

Walker’s Equestrian Center is considered one of the premier facilities of any school in the country.

The Ethel Walker School provides a strong foundation to maintain a best-in-class riding program.

The Equestrian Center is located on Walker’s 175-acre campus, providing ready access to the barn and horses, as well as winding trails and extensive turnouts.

On Campus Facilities

Our Equestrian Center is located on campus, so you are just steps away from your horse and your equestrian activities. The proximity of the barn to the academic buildings allows you to take riding lessons during the day as part of your normal school schedule.

Frank O.H. Williams Barn

The Frank O.H. Williams Barn, with three tack rooms, heated wash stalls, and an attached indoor ring, serves as the central hub of the facility. Williams Barn includes a work area for vets and farriers, a rubber brick floor for added warmth in the winter.

Henderson Riding Ring

Henderson is among the largest indoor rings in the area, measuring 100' by 200'. With natural lighting and beautiful brick walls, Henderson also offers Travel Light, dust-free footing, mirrors, and a full-length viewing gallery with a raised seating platform.

Show Ring

The Lorinda Payson de Roulet '47, P'70 Show Ring features a larger riding space with premium sand footing and a set of show-class jumps that are versatile for all jumping disciplines.

Paddocks

In fall 2017, Walker’s constructed a beautiful, new, larger turn-out area in the heart of the open fields directly across from the Frank O.H. Williams Barn featuring 14 individual paddocks of larger and varied sizes, each equipped with a Nelson automatic horse waterer.

Turnouts and Fields

In addition to our new paddocks, our facility has 13 additional turnout spaces, including nine sand paddocks and four grass fields.

Takes Two to Tango “Teddy”

Teddy is on loan by Abigail McRavey '20. Teddy is a wonderful chestnut who is honest and comfortable. He is perfect for beginner to intermediate riders.

Keepsake “Tino”

Tino is a wonderful 13.1 hand fleabitten grey pony. Tino is loved by all due to his smaller stature, he is a sweetie in the barn and super fun for the kids to ride.

Limited Edition “Eddie”

Eddie is a lovely, 17h KWPN gelding. Eddie is one of our younger horses, but has a great attitude and is a fantastic mount for many of our riders. His athleticism and kind personality make him a joy to have in the program.

Don Rico “Rico”

Rico is a 16 hand bay Reinland Pfalz- Saar gelding. Donated by Karen Odlum.

Claire

On loan to the program from Cindy Theran. Claire was imported from Germany and competed in the 1.10m jumpers. Claire is a favorite amongst the students as she is always game to participate in anything. She has also been a star of our IEA program being horse of the show at Regionals this year.

Pick Pocket “PP”

PP is a 16.1 hand bay, Warmblood gelding. PP is a unicorn, he is a great mount for both advanced and novice riders. PP was donated by Yanna Karabatsos.

Pepper Pogo “Pepper”

Pepper is a 16h bay WB mare. Pepper competed in the 1.30 jumpers prior to coming to EWS, she then was able to shift immediately to competing at New England Finals this year.

Quandor VD Heffinck “Q”

Q is a 16.1 hand chestnut Belgian Warmblood gelding. Q is an amazing jumper for our advanced riders.

Worth Wiley “Wiley”

Wiley is a 16.2h WB gelding. Wiley is a favorite with his lovely movement and jumping style.

BVS Rising Tide “Tully”

Tully is a 16.3h Irish Warmblood gelding. He has competed in the Hunters and Equitation.

Wesley

Wesley is a 16.2 hand bay, Warmblood gelding. He is a wonderful Hunter/ Equtiation mount for our intermediate riders. Donated generously by Cynthia Kirkland Kellogg '60.

Street Daddy “Papi”

Papi is a 17 hand dark bay TB gelding. Donated by Kimberley Young.

Cearney

Cearney is a 16h Irish Sport Horse gelding. He is a sweet former eventer and fox hunter who has fit seamlessly into our program as a fan favorite!

Blue Monday “Blue”

Blue is a 16.1 hand warmblood gelding. He is a true gentleman and master in his trade. Blue shines in all disciplines and has an incredible show record. Donated by Jessica Pletka.

Arista

Arista is a lovely 15.3 hand bay KWPN Mare. Arista has had many careers including being a show jumper, and a mom to 3 foals. She now takes great care of our novice riders, and she loves a good trail ride!

Je Revel “Revel”

Revel is a spicy 16h mare, she is a favorite of many of our jumper riders especially with her former career as a jumper competing up to the 1.30's.

Whootenanny “Link”

Link is a spunky large pony. Link placed 10th in the large green ponies at Pony Finals in 2021. Link is a great pony for all levels, he is very game, even participating in our first Walker's Cup!

Serengeti “Brownie”

Brownie is a 15.2h by Dutch Warmblood gelding, he is a lovely horse for our intermediate riders and is often "horse of the show" at IEA shows. Brownie is on loan to us from Ellie Bell '12.

Minor Details “Oliver”

Oliver is a 15 hand Thoroughbred gelding. He is super comfortable and forward to the jumps. Oliver is a great addition for our intermediate girls that like a smaller horse.

Yoyo

Yoyo is a 14.3 hand Quarter Horse/ Welsh Cob Cross gelding that is used predominantly for our beginner and intermediate riders. His manageable size makes him an excellent type for new riders. Donated by Melissa Holden and her daughter Chloe Lewis ‘22.

S & L Cocodrille “Coco”

We are incredibly lucky to have Coco in our program. His show record boasts several grand prix placings, making him an excellent tool for our more advanced riders. He is a total sweetheart in the barn and loves to work. Donated by Mr. Samuel Edelman.

Kessandra

Kessandra is a 2004 Arabian standing at 14.3 hands. She did dressage before she came to Walker’s and since then has learned how to jump. She is a great ride for beginners. Kessandra was donated by Angela Peavy '15.

Dallas

Dallas is a 16.2 hand warmblood gelding. His huge stride and brave nature make him a student favorite. Dallas has an impressive record from the hunter ring, but is useful to students of all levels and interests. Donated by Steve and Marjorie Harvey.

Cosmo

Cosmo is a 16.1 hand grey warmblood gelding. He is a wonderful beginner horse, has great lead changes and is a perfect cross-rail horse.

Double O Seven “Bond”

Retired! In our new big retiree field. Bond is a 15.3 hand black thoroughbred/quarter horse gelding. He is an amazing horse for riders just starting out. He loves trail rides and is a star in our annual Holiday Ride.
