“Hello! My name is Amelia Forde and I’m in my sophomore year of high school. I started at The Ethel Walker School as a 7th grader, but because my mom Ms. Forde works here, I’ve been on campus since before I could walk. I’m also am a student athlete, and I participate in both sports and theater. I really love how welcoming Walkers’ Athletics are! The community overall is super welcoming. One of my favorite times of the week is morning meeting when we all get together to share each others successes.”
My favorite subject in school has to be English. I’ve always been a bookworm, and I really enjoy writing. My 7th grade teacher Ms. Thacker is the one who really encouraged me to keep writing, and now I am working on a novel.
7th grade me would never had believed me if I had told her that we made Varsity Lacrosse as an 8th grader. I would try to convince her how Couch Jill did such an amazing job making me feel welcomed and needed even at my young age.
I really enjoy lunch, and no that not because I don’t have to do work. Our school cafeteria is called Abra’s. And everyday for lunch, the dinning staff do such an amazing job preparing meals that are both nutritious and yummy. I also get to sit with my friends on the soft booths that Abra’s provides for the student. Altogether, Abra’s lunch time holds so really special memories in my heart.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to people, students and faculty, it might seem scary, but Walker’s is a really special an unique place where you are excepted and will never feel out of place
The all girls environment. Though it’s getting better, sadly we live in a world where male superiority is still around. I have a strong feeling that if I’d gone to a co-ed school, I wouldn’t feel as confident, nor get the opportunities to run for class president or make an announcement in front of the whole school.
I struggle with anxiety, and Walker’s has helped me so much with it. They’ve helped me overcome my social fears, and pushed me to become more self-confident. I definitely have to give a shout out to the older students, there are anything but scary and they were always happy to help out and guide the younger ones.
Walker’s has a really good college counseling system, they work with all grades in high school, especially juniors and seniors. Walker’s also provides specific blocks every week dedicated to stopping into teacher classroom to get extra help if needed.
I really enjoy hanging out in Abra’s with my friends, or going up to the art room. Sometimes in the spring if I don’t have work, I’ll go out behind the Centennial Center and play corn-hole or gaga with my friends.
