“Hi, I’m Charlie and I entered Walker’s as a sophomore. I was toured by a Cicerone who convinced me why Walker’s was the right choice. This encouraged me to want to make the same impact for people who are curious about Walker’s. I want to express to them why Walker’s is the right choice and the amazing experiences it gives you.”

What is your favorite class and why?

My favorite class is science because I enjoy learning how to make different substances and the experiments I get to do in class. I find the history behind science fascinating because I get to learn and compare different experiments and how they work differently.

What is a unique experience you’ve had at Walker’s that you didn’t think you’d be involved in when arriving at Walker’s?

I went to an LGBTQ+ conference that was held at Choate Rosemary Hall and got to learn a lot about the community and LGBTQ+ history. A speaker who worked for Nickelodeon also came in and talked us about her experiences as a LGBTQ+ writer and I overall learned a lot as well as getting to meet a lot of people my age who share the same community.

What is your favorite part of your typical day at Walker’s? What do you look forward to every day?

I look forward to sports every day because they allow me to get my mind off of things and can relieve stress.

What is your favorite part about being a boarder?

I love how independent it allows me to be and how I am in charge of myself.

What advice would you give to an incoming Walker’s student?

I would say to come in with an open mind and to be open to trying things you don’t have a lot of experience in because they can be life-changing experiences.

What do you think is the biggest benefit of attending school at Walker’s?

I think the variety of Community Partnerships it offers because most people don’t get to do partnerships like VITA or Habitat for Humanity. I think you can learn and gain a lot from those experiences.

How do you feel you have grown (academically, emotionally, mentally) since your first day at Walker’s?

I feel like I’m academically and emotionally supported at Walker’s. I’ve never felt alone when I go through a hard time because there are friends and teachers around me offering their support.

How do you think Walker’s has prepared you for your future?

I think Walker’s has taught me a lot of independence and that I have to stand up for myself because no one else will. I know this will be useful for college and the rest of my life.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

I like to be with my friends, whether it’s studying or hanging out — they are just fun people to be around.
