Hi! My name is Lily, and I joined Walker’s as a ninth grader after touring the school and realizing it was a place where I could grow into the best version of myself. Being a Cicerone is important because we get to show prospective families what Walker’s is all about and highlight all the great opportunities it offers. The campus is a big deciding factor in choosing a school, and since our campus is already amazing, all we need to do is present it in a welcoming and positive way. I aim to show prospective families all the unique aspects that make Walker’s so special, such as the opportunities, the friendly people, and the dedicated teachers and coaches.”
Last year I joined cross country and made varsity. When I arrived at Walker’s, I never would have believed that I could do, have fun, or be successful at cross country. Everyone on the team was so welcoming, and I was never judged as I learned about the sport or built up my endurance and speed. After the last meet of the season, I felt so proud of how strong I had become, and the bonds that were created with my teammates. I loved it so much that I decided to continue participating this year.
I look forward to Morning Meeting every Monday and Friday. I feel such a sense of community when the whole school sits together in the chapel and I get to hear about the fun things happening this weekend, how our sports teams are doing, what new clubs are forming, and a speech from Ms. Vis. Since Morning Meeting is student-run, it is inspiring to see the leadership that the Big 7 brings to our school and how confidently and smoothly they run the whole meeting.
My favorite thing to do in my free time is play basketball. We have two beautiful courts in the Centennial Center equipped with a top-notch shooting machine. I can use the gym during any of my free time, so I usually use it during my free blocks. It is also open after co-curriculars, so there are many opportunities to get some great practice in with teammates or by yourself!
