Hi! My name is Maeve Sullivan, and I am a junior day student from West Simsbury. I joined the Walker’s community as a freshman. Being a Cicerone is important because they get to share their love for the community with prospective families. When I toured Walker’s, the welcome I received drew me to the school, and I love to return the favor to others. I would love to show all prospective families my favorite parts of our beautiful campus.”

What is your favorite class and why?

My favorite class is math for many reasons. One is our amazing math faculty; they push and challenge us to do the best we can without being too difficult.

What is a unique experience you’ve had at Walker’s that you didn’t think you’d be involved in when arriving at Walker’s?

A unique experience at Walker’s that I did not view myself in at first is dance. In my sophomore year, I took a dance class with Ms. Soule and loved it. I would still not consider myself a “dancer,” but I recommend the class!

What is your favorite part of your typical day at Walker’s? What do you look forward to every day?

My favorite part of my day is Advisory Lunch. I love debriefing the week with a group of girls and a faculty member who I know has my back and will support me no matter what.

What advice would you give to an incoming Walker’s student?

My advice would be to run for the class office. I was a freshman vice president and a sophomore weekend activities rep — it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

What do you think is the biggest benefit of attending school at Walker’s?

A huge benefit of Walker’s is playing the stock market. Every student is given $1,000 to invest in a company of their choice. At no other school would you be able to learn how to invest by actually doing it.

How do you feel you have grown (academically, emotionally, mentally) since your first day at Walker’s?

I have grown in more ways than one after becoming a Walker’s student, but mostly in my leadership skills and confidence. There are so many opportunities at Walker’s to step outside of your comfort zone, and you are encouraged to do exactly that.

How do you think Walker’s has prepared you for your future?

Walker’s prepares you for the future through the Capabilities Approach. This ensures that before every student graduates, they can perform certain skills. Whether they  are swimming, self defense, getting certified to do their own and others’ taxes, and getting a CPR/first aid certification. These skills prepare you for life beyond Walker’s.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

In my free time, I love to hang out with my friends. I consider myself to be adventurous and I love trying new things with people.
