A proud Sun, Sydney Satchell is being recognized for excellence as a multi-sport athlete and a dedicated member of the Walker’s athletic community. At Walker’s, Sydney played varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse for 12 consecutive seasons and held numerous leadership roles, including President of the Student Body.
After graduating from Walker’s, Sydney went on to Howard University, where she continued to excel both academically and athletically — competing on the Division I women’s lacrosse team and graduating magna cum laude. Less than a year after graduation, Sydney experienced a life-altering car accident that resulted in the loss of a limb. Her unwavering dedication to athletics and resilience during recovery inspired Howard University’s Athletic Department to establish the Sydney Satchell Award for Perseverance in her honor. Soon after the accident, Sydney returned to competitive sports through adaptive athletics and is now a member of the U.S. Women’s National Sitting Volleyball Team.
In 2024, Sydney and her teammates traveled to Paris to compete in the Summer Paralympics, where they triumphed with a thrilling gold medal victory.
