B.A., Mount Holyoke College
MAT, University of New Hampshire

Cynthia started her teaching career in college, teaching math and history for two summers at Breakthrough Manchester (New Hampshire) to middle school students. After college, she worked as a Girl Scout professional in Pennsylvania for three years before heading to graduate school at the University of New Hampshire to become a social studies teacher. She taught middle and high school at public, private, and online schools for the next 13 years before becoming a math teacher in 2017 at Oldfields School in Maryland. Cynthia loves helping students to feel more confident in math and to see the beauty in finding different ways to solve a problem. She has also served as assistant Varsity softball coach for five years at Oldfields School and one year at Sandy Spring Friends School.

Outside of school, Cynthia is an avid choral singer, with international choral tours to England and Wales (2005), China (2007), Finland and the Baltics (2017), and most recently Germany and the Czech Republic (2024). She also enjoys knitting — check out her collection of scarfs and shawls when the weather gets cooler! She lives with her cat, Ruth Bader Ginspurr, and enjoys a good game of cards.

What was it about Walker’s that made you want to work here?

As a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts and having attended a historically women’s college, I have a deep appreciation for the power of inclusive, girl-focused environments. I’m also very excited to be returning to the state of my birth!
