Our basketball program stresses the development of a selfless attitude while on the road to success. Shared team goals around achievement, competition, and both group and personal growth have created a program that pulls the best out of each program member. An encouraging and supporting environment has allowed the achievement of these goals, which has translated to success for both the team and the individual.
Walker’s basketball program is a member school of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Basketball, which provides the rules and regulations for high school basketball teams to prepare students for parallel rules in the NCAA. Walker’s basketball is also a part of the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). Walker’s is a Class C division competitor, and also competes in the prestigious Founders League. League competitors include Choate, Taft, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Westminster, Kent, Kingswood Oxford, and Miss Porter’s.
Coach John Monagan is in his 16th year in the Walker’s basketball program. During his years at Walker’s, he has led the Varsity team to the NEPSAC Class C tournament five times. His philosophy centers around playing fast and having a strong offensive attack. In his playing years, Coach Monagan led his prep school basketball team to two New England Championships.
