Basketball

vs. Hotchkiss School

Postponed TBD

vs. Millbrook School

Our basketball program stresses the development of a selfless attitude while on the road to success. Shared team goals around achievement, competition, and both group and personal growth have created a program that pulls the best out of each program member. An encouraging and supporting environment has allowed the achievement of these goals, which has translated to success for both the team and the individual.

Our League Affiliations

Walker’s basketball program is a member school of the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Basketball, which provides the rules and regulations for high school basketball teams to prepare students for parallel rules in the NCAA. Walker's basketball is also a part of the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). Walker’s is a Class C division competitor, and also competes in the prestigious Founders League. League competitors include Choate, Taft, Hotchkiss, Loomis, Westminster, Kent, Kingswood Oxford, and Miss Porter’s.

Walker’s junior varsity basketball program mixes basketball instruction with a competitive interscholastic schedule.

While many girls are interested in learning the basics of the game, this team also caters to the individuals who are close to the varsity level but may need one or two seasons of polishing up skills in a less competitive environment.

The junior varsity team works closely with the varsity team in practices and in games. The teams share practice time during the beginning of the year, and often play games following one another against the same opponents.

The Middle School basketball program encourages participation for each player, and with that participation comes the growth of a competitive spirit and a joy in playing the game of basketball.

Student athletes on the Middle School basketball team are taught to learn and love the game. Our students from grades six through eight spend their practice time understanding the fundamentals of defense, the proper way to run offensive plays, and the skill sets (dribbling, passing, shooting) that will allow them to become better players in the future. Our Middle School team plays an interscholastic schedule of games against area schools.
