“Hi, I’m Izzy, and I have been at Walker’s since eighth grade. I have always felt welcome and at home while at Walker’s, and I’m excited to be a Cicerone and help you find your second home as well. I am eager to help answer questions and share my experiences at Walker’s!”

What is your favorite class and why?

I loved Dance Composition! I love to dance, and creating dance with people of all different levels was a fantastic experience. I am passionate about choreographing and can’t wait to choreograph more.

What is a unique experience you’ve had at Walker’s that you didn’t think you’d be involved in when arriving at Walker’s?

I am a part of so many clubs and enjoy all the roles I am in charge of. Coming from being quiet and shy, I would have never thought I would be the head of three different clubs.

What is your favorite part of your typical day at Walker’s? What do you look forward to every day?

I love hanging out with friends during my free blocks or after school. It’s a time to connect with day students and boarders while hanging out in teachers’ offices or common spaces.

What is your favorite part about being a boarder?

I love having a family in the dorms and being able to talk to friends when I want to. The dorm parents are amazing and help so much when you are struggling. Having some of your teachers as dorm parents seemed weird initially, but the extra help before a test has been a lifesaver.

What advice would you give to an incoming Walker’s student?

I know that changing schools is super intimidating, and as someone who came to Walker’s after being in public school my entire life, it can be a huge culture shock, but change can end up being for good. Making friends at Walker’s is super easy because of all the opportunities through clubs, sports, or even having classes together.

What do you think is the biggest benefit of attending school at Walker’s?

Many teachers are passionate about what they are teaching and care for us as their students. If you are struggling, they are open to meeting you, and if you are concerned about their class, their emails are always available.

How do you feel you have grown (academically, emotionally, mentally) since your first day at Walker’s?

I feel like I have become more confident in every way. I am comfortable raising my hand in class, making announcements at Morning Meetings, and talking to new people.

How do you think Walker’s has prepared you for your future?

I am now prepared to speak out about what I am passionate about and pursue understanding my values and who I am. I also understand how to have a good work ethic and know I belong in Honors and advanced classes.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

Even though I love hanging out with my friends, my favorite thing to do in my free time is to go to the dance studios. Only a few people go to the studios on the weekend, so having a big open studio to myself is my favorite thing ever. I can work on whatever I want, whether it be choreography, new tricks, or my strength and flexibility.
